Ive watched the first 3 eps and have enjoyed it so far. Does it get worse?

It gets worse - there are some pretty bad episodes in there - but then it gets better again. So it's kind of up and down. Basically, the original has a sizable core of pure genius, but then it gets kind of obscured by a fortunately-not-completely-covering layer of crap added on top.

The modern one is much better, but the original is, IMO, significantly underrated. It apparently got written off as a Star Wars ripoff and nobody ever looked past "OMG fighters in space NOBODY EVAR DID THAT BEFORE STAR WARS YOU ARE T3H LAM3Rz!!!1!!" or something.

The episodes were getting to expensive and then the suckiness started. I was a little kid when they first aired so mostly I didn't notice unless they got *really* bad (grumble-fredaistaire-grumble)

Yeah, it gets worse. Lorne Green is the only saving grace for the show.

Depends on your definition of "worse". I love the original show, warts and all. But the warts..oy. If you can deal with them hitting a casino just a few days after their civilization gets destroyed, then the rest of it shold be okay. Much like original Trek, they occasionally do the completely cracktastic plots (like Starbuck in the Space Family RobinHood episode).

Well, I like the original series, so I don't think it's bad. However, if you end up seeing the "Galactica 80" stuff...yes, it gets MUCH worse. I can't make it through those episodes. Painful to watch.

Ouch. Aren't they just? It must be at least 20 years since I last saw anything of Galactica 1980 and I'm still wincing at the memory.

For me, only two good things came out of that particular cheap and slipshod attempt to ride on the coattails of the original concept, and they are:

1. The somewhat amusing thought that Boxey grows up to be John Crichton's father (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0566382/).
2. The first appearance of the biological Cylons, in the shape of Roger Davis in "The Night the Cylons Landed".

And then you run like hell before you catch sight of Doctor Zee or the Super-Scouts. Ai-eeeeeee!

Pst, Kent McCord played Troy in Galactica 1980.

I read that and was like "NO WAY" and then I was like "No..way...he's much too old to have been Boxey."

Actors ages notwithstanding - and only Adama (and I think an aged-up Boomer?) were around of the original crew, so it's hard to guesstimate the passage of time - there was indeed a passing reference to the name change. I think probably in the first episode of Galactica 1980, but it's way too long ago.

Guess he just grew up and thought that Boxey was a really dumb name, and who could blame him? And then he traded the daggit in for Dillon. :-)

Ah. Sorry, I'd never watched Galactica 1980 so I was just going on what I knew and didn't realize that Troy = Boxey all growed up.

Even if you had seen Galactica 1980 you could easily not have realised. It really was a blink and you'll miss it moment between grandfather Adama and grandson "Troy". If you didn't see the scene in question, it was never referred to again.

I kinda enjoyed Richard Lynch as Xavier, but with only Adama and Boomer left over, there was no chance. And yes, Doctor Zee and the Super Scouts were my least favorite things on that season. Even though I was only a kid then, I still knew it was incredibly stupid. I can only imagine how much I'd hate it now.

Well...it got bad, and then a little better...I'm at "The Living Legend," which was pretty awesome. Of course, it's sort of disappointing after new Galactica, but I watch it anyway. Just be prepared for some really, really bad costumes. =P
