Resistance (is futile) ;)
WOW! It's rare for a TV show to surprise me even once, but this show manages to do it again and again!
I was surprised that Tigh thought Tyrol was a cylon, though it makes sense. (Tigh hit Galen. Tigh must die!) Tigh's given up all pretense of having it together now - drinking in front of people, not shaving etc. I'm very disappointed we didn't get to see Galen find out about Boomer. I guess that's what fanfic is for. *g*
We see Tigh try to "resist" the lure of the bottle and the lure of Ellen, yet give in to both temptations.
I totally buy Helo and Starbuck as old friends. I like them together, and I don't mean that in a sexual way. (Personally, I haven't decided if I think Kara does Frakbuddies or not. I can see her having that kind of relationship with people, but I can also see her putting all men, with the exception of the Adama boys, into two categories - friends or fraks, with no crossovers. She told Lee she was a screw-up when he confronted her about Baltar. If she believes she's lousy at relationships, she might value friendship more than a quick frak and not have sex with friends. As I said, I haven't decided.)
I wondered if Ellen was deliberately giving Tigh bad advice, or if she was really that stupid when she blocked Tigh's plan to have a talk with the ship's captains. She could be trying to trade up, and working for Zarek in trying to start a full out rebellion that would ultimately benefit Zarek and a loyal Ellen.
The actor who plays Anders looks *a lot* like JB to me. I doubt that's on purpose, but it will be interesting if Kara ends up in bed with him since she fantasized Baltar was Lee. I'm reserving judgment, but my initial impression of Anders and the professional pyramid team is derisive laughter. That's the first storyline I can think of that really seemed wrong to me. It all seems a bit too cheesy for my taste. I'm not sure if it's the character or the actor, but I got a smarmy vibe from him. I'm hoping he'll grow on me though. I did like watching he and Kara play pyramid however. I totally bought that as a real game.
I continue to love the golden light the Caprica scenes are filmed with. It reminds me of Frost's "nothing gold will stay" which is poignantly appropriate for what has happened on Caprica IMO. It also reminds me of nostalgia, a feeling of home, and old sepia pictures. It all works wonderfully to evoke a feeling of something precious having been lost.
I was shocked when Baltar almost killed Tryol! I thought it would be easier for him to kill a 2nd time, but I didn't think it would happen this fast! I totally think he would have let Galen die too. I'm not convinced Boomer was telling the truth about their being 8 cylons in the fleet. Based on what we've seen before, I don't think she can willingly access that kind of information. It may have been the truth, but I also think there's a good chance she just made it up to get Baltar to help Tyrol.
Yay for Cally! I loved her blackmailing Baltar and hitting that crewman. I haven't decided if I think she's "in love" with Tyrol or just loves him.
Gaeta warning Dee about the off log calls in the bathroom was the first time I really got a "might be a cylon" vibe from Gaeta. I wasn't at all sure which way he was going to go later when Tigh asked him about that.
Of course I loved all the Lee scenes, with Dee keeping him updated, and the pilots wanting him to play cards. His scene with his father was very touching too. :)
Hee! I loved Cottle in this ep, especially him telling off Tigh. *g*
I really liked Laura's convincing of the marine private to let her pass. She was utterly calm, yet we get to see her obvious nervousness and relief after she walks by.
It was in stark contrast to Tigh's tense bellowing of orders and indecisiveness. I don't think it ever even occurred to him that the fleet might not go along with his orders regarding martial law. He expected them to obey orders as if they were military.
I was surprised how the escape turned out. I had thought Tigh would order Hot Dog to fire, but he would refuse. I figured that's what all the card playing stuff was a set for earlier. Hot Dog seemed pretty eager on the trigger, BTW. I wonder if Tigh would have ordered them shot down if Lee's last name was something else or was that just an excuse?
I didn't buy Billy's reasons for not going with Laura. I don't see any difference in going with her now, and standing up with her against he boarding party on Colonial One. I'm not going to complain too much about anything that gets Laura and Lee together on Cloud Nine though. They even have a priest along to marry them. ;)
I knew Lee was talking about Zarek of course when he said he had a way, but Laura wouldn't like it. That's going to come back and bite them in the ass. I *really* hope they're not setting up a relationship between Roslin and Zarek. Ick. :(
The scenes between Ellen and Saul were wonderfully acted, and utterly repellent, especially the slap/kiss scene. In my personal BSG universe her maiden name is MacBeth from now on. I liked Saul's line about her twisting the knife as a sly reference to that. *eg*
The shooting scene with the civilians was horrifying and very reminiscent of early scenes between US military and rock throwing crowds earlier in the war in Iraq.
I was disappointed in Adama. Apparently he won't be replacing Tigh or even reprimanding him for what he's done. I wonder if he realizes that the rebellion was not just in the fleet, but in the military as well. I've seen several people say that Adama didn't ever want martial law, that he would be appalled etc. I agree up to a point.
He didn't want the military policing the fleet or martial law, but not because it goes against the Articles of Colonization IMO. That's Lee's reason. I think Adama just wants to keep the military separate because he doesn't want the headache of dealing with the fleet. When it suits him, he has no problem in putting military might above legal right. I haven't liked him since Litmus when he illegally dismissed that board of inquiry for that very reason. He was fine with them questioning other people, but not him. It's the same with having Roslin arrested. It was fine for her to rule until she crossed *him*.
We had the LBJ inauguration in the mini, and now Jack Ruby shooting Oswald. I was *stunned!* I'm so very glad I don't read spoilers for this show! Wow, what a scene! Beautifully shot! I loved the heartbeat, and the blood drop again. Very powerful! I love this show! Off to listen to the podcast. :)

Definitely the pyramid team storyline was goofy, but for some reason I still buy it. Now I just wonder who was shooting at the downed BSG crew on Kobol!
I wonder if Hot Dog was just "eager on the trigger" from nerves? He's caught between a rock & a hard place, & even though he's much more seasoned than when he got his callsign, he still is a nugget.
Roslin/Zarek? I didn't even think of that. Eek!

I'm pretty sure it was the cylons.

I can buy that. :)

*smacks head* Hm. There was totally some reason why I didn't think it was them, but I suspect it was something like "the gunfire didn't sound high-tech enough for me to think it was Cylons! It sounded like humans w/their inferior technology!" But only having watched all the eps once so far (& w/not so great attention to detail @ times), my assumptions are sometimes nutso. ;)
But I do think it would be really cool if there were other sentient beings (whether human or something else--not Cylons though) on Kobol. Sigh!

Not at all. It wasn't a typical cylon attack based on what we've seen so far. This show is fun to speculate about. :)
I liked the idea someone came up with of it being friendly fire. *eg*
Don't worry
(Anonymous) 2005-08-07 01:44 am (UTC)(link)That relationship definitely won't be canon. I can see Zarek maybe having the hots for Laura, but I think it is more him getting the upper hand and having her be in his debt. He is now in a position to gain credibility for helping the prophet escape Tigh and Adama's cluthes. He has a plan, just like the cylons. No way in hell would Laura ever sleep with a man she hates that much. It would definitely be OOC for Laura. Plus Mary McDonnell has always said that there won't be a romantic relationship for Laura- at least not with the 10 that will air now (and possibly the second 10).
That is a double EEk! NO RDM!! Just say NO!

From your mouth to RM's ears! :)
"Galen"

I'm a total spoiler whore, and *I* didn't know that was coming! And even if I had, as with Adama's shooting, it would still have been as big a shock. It's one thing to know something's going to happen and quite another thing to actually SEE it happen. (Which is why I don't have a problem with spoilers... but that's just moi. :)

I don't know if I can EVER trust TPTB for *any* show, even this stellar example. But then I'm old and cynical. ;)

*can't figure out how to put the quotes in italics, so apologies for that!*
Actually, it's completely on purpose, I remember reading somewhere that they purposefully cast someone who looks like JB. And to top off the anvils, the guy is also a Captain (though in this case of a sports team) and they both have the initials L.A.!

No problem. These are the commands for italics, but without the spaces of course. < i > text < / i >

LOL! I wonder if Kara consciously realizes he looks like Lee. *g*

OH yeah. LOTS of it.
Also, eight was the number Galactica!Boomer (RIP) came up with, but eight was also the last number spoken by Dr. Baltar, in the 10-second countdown he started to try to get her to cough up a number. It's not very difficult to imagine at all that the last number she heard would be the first she'd come up with. So I think the number is probably invalid - anything to make him stop killing the Chief.

I was watching it again, and they even play ominous music when he leaves. *g*

Good point! :)

One more grab from history for you, this time The American Revolution. The casualty count aboard the civilian ship was the exact same casualty count as for the Boston Massacre. Also, I don't think it was an accident that coffee was the item that the Marines were going after (Boston Tea Party ring a bell?).
BTW & off topic, but I really love your icon collection.
