1. What is the area called where the lighter scene takes place? Is it the hangar? The landing bay?

I seem to remember "hangar deck"; I don't think I've heard anyone say simply "hangar". The landing bay seemed to be the thing where they actually touch down before being brought down to the deck with actual atmosphere.
