i am sure as many old fans (since i was five) might be upset with the new realities of the battlestar universe i am quite pleased with this show. the sci fi channel can really make some movies bad enough that roger corman is laughing all the way to the bank. after one mini series and two episodes my father is even impressed. hands down the best thing the sci fi channel has done since it aired the prisoner on a channel that isn't PBS. my only complaint so far regards boxey. where's muffet? where's boxey? i wouldn't want him to suffer from wesley crusher syndrome but boxey/muffet was an important part of the classic series.

I sorta feel like I've come full circle. The original BSG was the first show I felt really fannish about, and now I really like the new one as well. I'm eternally grateful they didn't have the net back then. The stories I imagined were so mary sue they make me wince now!

I can absolutely see Dirk Benedict, (the original Starbuck), as Kara's Father. *g*

Though they later changed her into a nurse, Cassiopeia in the first BSG series was originally a prostitute. From what I can remember, on one of the planets prostitution was regulated and they had to be certified, at least at the high level she was at. I wonder if they'll introduce that again? She was Starbuck's girlfriend in the original series. Maybe they'll have this Starbuck flirting with a high-class prostitute too. I'm already picturing a very hunky Caspian. I'd love to see them have a bisexual, male, highly trained prostitute on the show. Think of the fanfic possibilities! *eg*

I did some research and Cassiopeia was a "socialator". I don't know if they had streetwalkers, and if they were called the same thing, but at her level that was the term.

Here are some more original series BSG terms. I thought this would be helpful for the fic writers. I found these here.

I'd wondered how BSG had fared and the answer is fantastically:

Galactica premiere draws 3.1 million viewers
TUESDAY - JANUARY 18, 2005

The SCI FI Channel scored on Friday with the series premiere of Battlestar Galactica, which drew 3.1 million viewers for two episodes on January 14. The show scored a 2.6 average household rating.

Galactica was the top-rated show on cable for the evening in several key demographics, including viewers 25 to 54, viewers 18 to 49, men 18-34, men 18-49, and men 25-54. The premiere was the highest-rated first quarter (January through March) event in SCI FI's history, and its second-highest rated series premiere. Only the July 2005 premiere of Stargate Atlantis scored higher (a 3.2 rating).

Hurrah! *flings hat into air in celebration*

Please god, let it continue. I want a second season even after seeing only the first two episodes.

In news of the weird, my sister, who doesn't normally like sci-fi at all, recorded the miniseries rebroadcast and the premiere because she had fondness for the original. Her comment on the miniseries when I asked was that it was "slow". I'll ask tonight about her reaction to the premiere.
