RDM has already confirmed that they are Cylons.

Can you point us to the reference online? I'd love to read it.

Sure, it's here:

He says:

R: Are these four all full Cylons?

RM: Yes, but they are different fundamentally.

some more thoughts

Alright. A few things:

is it just me, or did it seem that possibly the Chief was jumping to conclusions about the Cylon thing?

I don't think so. The deal with humanoid models is that, if they think their human, their switches flip, like Boomer's did.

The Final 5 are clearly not like the humanoid models we know and love. Just as Earth and the 13th colony have become part of the colonies' mythology, I think the existence of the Final 5 have become part of Cylon mythology as well. No one - save Deanna - has ever seen them. All we know is that Cylon models we've met kind of fear them.

Starbuck is clearly the fifth one (in the original series, Starbuck disppears and returns will knowledge of a new civilization or something like that), which is similar to what happens with her return when she tells Lee she will take the humans to Earth.

As for the Dylan song, I think that was kind of silly - but it might also be an attempt at irony/a clue. If the 5 are tapping into Earth, they're tapping into our Earth. Apparently a modern one, as you said. ;)

So I don't think it's "Radio Cylon." I think it's the 5 having this psychic connection to Earth. There's the mantra "one happened will happen again," so maybe this is completing the cycle - humans and Cylons living together in some sort of harmony or something (until the show goes into syndication or something like that!).

One more thing: you know how Chief knows a ridiuclous amount about the scripture and he took them to the tomb of Athena and how Deanna saw the Final 5 before she died? She said something like, "I didn't know it was you; I'm so sorry," which my husband speculates was said to Tigh, whom the Cylons tortured on New Caprica.

All I know for sure is that a lot of the middle episodes of this season sucked and I hope they don't do that again next year. I don't want any more dumb 45-minute flashbacks about venomous blonde wives.

I take that back - after consulting with my hubby (hi, we're dorks!), I do think the Cylon fleet they jumped into were broadcasting that music.

The fifth, in my opinion, anyway, must be Starbuck b/c the fifth humanoid didn't meet up with the others on Galactica because it wasn't on Galactica. It/Starbuck was finding Earth.

That's my theory and I'm sticking to it. ;)

Starbuck is clearly the fifth one

Clearly, how?

If the 5 are tapping into Earth, they're tapping into our Earth.

I think the Dylan song thing was so stupid, it almost ruined the episode for me (unless everything was just a vision of Roslin's, maybe after she first started to collapse...?). And though I would agree that if it is true, it means it can't be an earth of the past, I don't think it indicates at all that it can't be a future earth. I'm sure the music of today will be preserved for thousands of years hence, especially the major hits. (I just wish they hadn't used one!)

Based on the exponential speed at which technology has grown in the last 40 years, do you really think it'll be more than a century or so before even we have planetary terraforming and global climate control? I don't think we have any reason to assume that the 13th colony, living in peace, hasn't progressed far past the civilization they left. Heck, for all we know the regular colonies had tech more advanced that that. They have FTL drive, I don't think carbon sequestration is gonna be a huge hurdle for them, or those that left them behind.

All that being said, though I certainly HOPE it's in the future, I don't have a lot of faith that it will be, after that STUPID STUPID STUPID Dylan song nonsense.

nice username.

Agreed that the Dylan song was stupid. I think it did ruin the episode for me. I've been disappointed pretty much the entire season.

Starbuck must be the fifth because
1) she's been drawing that spiral thing since forever
2) Leobin (the Cylon and the one in her head) told her things about herself that have disturbed and come to fruition
3) she went up in flames and came back to lead the humans to Earth.
4) The Cylon fleet that Galactica jumped into was broadcasting the Dylan song that the humanoid models heard. No one else on the ship could hear it. So the 5th humanoid wasn't on the ship.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Cylon fleet they jumped into is full of Final 5 humanoids models. It's possible they have different priorities than the 6-12 models. Anyway, there's no doubt in my mind that Starbuck is the fifth one.

I could be wrong, but until Season 4, I'm sticking by my theory. :)

So, is everyone just discounting that Starbuck and the last four revealed in the last episode are the final five?
