Probably spoilers under the cut.

So, I just finished watching the finale for the second time. And I wonder if I have the same questions as the rest of you. My biggest working theory is that I can buy Tori, Tyrol, and Anders being Cylons. But Tigh? 40 years ago, as far as we know, the Cylons hadn't achieved the human element of their rebellion, had they? 40 years ago they had just rebelled the first time. So Tigh just doesn't seem...young enough to be a Cylon, I suppose. Unless while he was on New Caprica during Cylon occupation, someone the Cylons could *turn* him into a Cylon. Is there a possibility that their technology is that advanced? Or did they maybe put a chip in his neck to make him think he's a Cylon?
Also - Tyrol being a Cylon - I suppose that means Hera isn't the only unique baby on Galactica now. Or will Hera forever be unique because she was the first successful hybrid?
And I also wonder about Earth. Is it going to be like...2007 Earth? I believe (and I'm sure you'll correct me if I'm wrong) that in an earlier version of BSG, they landed in Ancient Egypt. I'm not sure though, I haven't actually seen the episodes myself. So when Kara says she's been to Earth - would she lead the fleet to a desolate place? Or would she lead them somewhere prosperous and livable? And if it is current, as in a 2007 time frame (or 2008, if they get there next season), how can you suddenly explain a population boom of 40,000+ humans? They would have to find jobs (again, speculating this is a modern Earth). Laura wouldn't be President, so she'd most likely fall back on her teaching; but what is she going to say? I graduated from college on Caprica? Doesn't really work since I'm pretty sure a degree from a school on a planet that Earth has never heard of wouldn't be valid.
Anyway. These are just my thoughts at uh, 1:30 in the morning, lol. And I didn't want to do any shameless promotion without actually bringing some good discussion to the community.
If you read my ramblings, man, I'm impressed, because I start talking and have no idea what I even mean. But I really wanted to tell you guys about a role play community called

Date: 2007-03-27 06:37 am (UTC)Ruins in the Egyptian style were used as the ruins of Kobol in the original series. Ignoring the incredibly crappy sequel series (Galactica 1980), we know that they were still in space heading towards Earth after the Apollo moon landings, because in what I think was the last episode of the original series, they picked up the Apollo landing signals from the Moon.
The First Cylon War is a real interesting point, but I think it just wedges in, mostly because the First Cylon War was 40 years ago when the miniseries started. So now that'd be, what, 42+ years ago? But we have canon on-show assertion that the other five models are somehow different, so we don't know what rules apply.
If I'm right about my Grand Unification Theory of Battlestar Galactica, then I don't think we have to worry about it only being 2007 c.e. on Earth. I think we'd be looking at something a lot closer to, hum, 8000-10000 c.e. But that's kind of a guess.
