I'm really disappointed in some people. I live in the UK and it takes me until Tuesday to get the chance to watch BSG. As some of you are probably aware - Some asshole decided to create a "spoiler" journal yesterday and add a whole load of us BSG-fans. Naturally it has now ruined it for me and probably a few other people as well. I kind of figured that what happened in the episode would actually happen, but even so, it has now ruined the surprise for me. It really really has and I feel quite angry over it. I know I'm probably being silly in some people's eyes, but it really isn't fair 'nor is it funny to spoil something that someone else really enjoys and is really looking forward to.

I just wonder if it was someone in this community who is the owner of the journal.

I don't blame you for being upset. I'd be furious in your situation, and it's only by luck that I get the US East Coast feed. Unfortunately, with trolls like that, there's not much that we can do; condemnation doesn't work on someone who clearly doesn't care about other fans.

I think that sometimes people may be a little too concerned about spoilers, but not in this case -- that was just rude, and you have every right to be angry about it.

It does sound like it could be interpreted in a pretty malicious way, but I feel like maybe I'm missing some part of your explanation.

How does them adding you a) allow you to see their posts if you haven't added them, and b) force you to read something labelled "spoilers"...?

Because there was no 'spoiler' label, and the NAME of the comm was the spoiler.

And somebody's response to this on another comm spoiled me. ARGH!

SON OF A BITCH! They added me, too. FUCK! I knew I shouldn't have checked my "friend of" list after I read this. I'm so damn STUPID!

I haven't even STARTED 3.5 yet.

This is infinitely worse than when someone spoiled Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince for me.

What a troll.

I banned the son of a bitch. Wish I could ban by IP, in case they decide they want to pull this again with a future episode.

Thank god lj has that feature now where they disappear off of your "friends of" list so I don't have to look at that eyesore of a name. I just wish I could do it proactively for this joker.

ban_set asshole

Where is Cain's iron-fisted method of dealing with security leaks when you need it?

How can I do that so that they're not on my 'friends of' list? I already have the list hidden so it doesn't spoil anyone that looks at my userinfo, but still, but still, I dont want to see it either

When you ban them, they are automatically removed. Basically, it means that if you ban someone, they can't add you as a friend, or, if they already have you as a friend, you have been un-added off of their friends list, and they won't be able to re-add you. (I think.)

It didn't used to be this way. I could ban someone and they could still list me as a friend. But due to the fact that the person I just banned dropped off of my friends of list, it looks like the stuff that lj had been meaning to implement for a while was finally done.

I think you can ban someone through the lj interface, but I always prefer to go to the admin console and do it.

Just type in

ban_set

and then the username

They should drop off your friends of list after that.

I'm sorry that happened.

No, you're not being silly at all. Anyone who is on internet boards, blogs, etc. are well aware of the issue of spoiling. To pull a stunt like that was a deliberate, malicious act.

People who don't respect the wishes of those who don't want to be spoiled are rude and selfish.

I'm really sorry you got spoiled. That was quite the episode, and far better to see it unspoiled.

It happened to me as well. I opened my inbox and there was this cursed '...isdead' staring back at me. Then I promptly went into denial and convinced myself it was a hoax, even though I could tell while watching the scenes with the other characters (they felt like one huge goodbye) that it wasn't. Meh. I'm incredibly annoyed but I guess now it's shifted to annoyance over the actual death.

With any luck, 'isdead' will get cancer and die. Hallelujah.
