I've been thinking on the Final Five for a while, ever since seeing a pic on IMDB. (pic behind cut) I have a new thesis.

Idle Speculation...
The past couple weeks the possibilities of the final Five keep bouncing through my head. I've a few posibilities that I've ruled out: Lee, the Admiral, Helo, Boomer, Gaius, Kara, Tigh and Anders all seem to be Human for a myriad of reasons.
That leaves quite a few possibilities left though. Gaeta has long been my first choice, but there's also Dualla, either of the Tyrols (but because of their son's presence, not both), and Tory.
Then I saw this picture on IMDB:

Now this is almost unquestionably Laura at the opera house, where we've been seeing the Final Five of late.
Her garb is a little troubling, as it's not in the robes (although that might have been a little too spoiler to give away before airing) but she's also not in her standard presidential garb, and appears to be carrying a purse, as if she were actually attending an opera.
So anyway, that got me thinking, could Laura be the first revealed of the Final Five? I made a quick bullet list of the reasons I had discounted her in the first place. And to my surprise, most of these can be explained away, and fairly easily, if she is a cylon:
1. Her relationship with President Adar.
This is probably the hardest thing to dispute, as it seems unlikely that she was able to get so close to the president in the two years that the skinjobs were known to have infiltrated the colonies. That said, the only real corroboration of her relationship with him is basically her word. We've seen her relating with him in the final days, but we don't know the character of Adar that well. Six managed to entwine herself pretty close to Baltar with sex, and we know that Roslin did have an affair with Adar. Further, she wasn't as high up in the government before the attacks as most people seem to assume. She was what, 43rd in the line of succession? Forged records could get someone fairly high, and let's not forget that we know of at least one Cylon infiltrating highly sensitive government computers...
2. Hallucinations
It's possible that her hallucinations are part of her programming; the side effects of being a sleeper agent who hasn't been using their Cylon visualization enough. The other frontrunner for the Final Five (Kara) certainly has had her share of hallucinations in the past while, why couldn't it have been Roslin? You'll also remember that these were caused by the extract, and not her disease itself.
3. The Cancer.
We know Cylons can get ill. We've only seen it in a virus, but the concept behind it was that it was an illness that the Cylons had not developed an immunity/antibody to. Cancer could easily fit the bill. There may also be some sort of meaning in the cancer eating away at one of the Final Five, that they were defective or whatever and that that's why they choose to stay hidden. The thing that really makes me wonder about Roslin though also comes from a Measure of Salvation. Sharon didn't get sick. The virus couldn't harm her because her immune system was all souped up by Hera's blood. And the key to that protection was the fact that the baby was half human. Could it be that when Gaius injected Roslin with Hera's blood, it wasn't the Cylon blood that was saving her.... but the human?
I dunno, just some thoughts.

Date: 2007-03-05 06:23 am (UTC)It's nice that you brought up the fact that she looks like she is actually attending an opera, rather than just chillin' on stage all glowy like the Final Five have been.
Maybe the opera house is a metaphor for the "real" story, and while the Final Five are on stage where everyone is narrowly focusing on them (just like the fans are rabidly speculating who the Final Five are, they are the focus), there are still things going on in the background with folks like Roslin. Things going on that perhaps we should be paying more attention to?
I personally can't wait to see where this leads. Knowing where the story has gone previously, I think it's safe to say that it's nothing that any of us could ever predict or speculate.
