Finally, we have another fandom where the characters canonically say 'gods.'

The "To Be Continued" killed me, but next week is almost here. Plus, I feel fairly certain that Starbuck is not going to be rescued by a group of children with lots of feathers and a big fluffy white horse. But that would be kind of cool, would it not?

Act of Contrition

Oh my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins because of Thy just punishments, but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, Who art all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near occasions of sin. Amen.

I wasn't quite sure what the point of the Helo/Boomer subplot was except to set up the counterpoint to the main plot of making mistakes and living with them. In the subplot, they discover a bomb shelter that's been decked out and doing everything it needs to be doing in a post nuclear war, and yet the person who set it up didn't even get a chance to use it. Playing it safe isn't necessarily a better option than getting out there and risking it all.

So, in terms of risking it all, this series is turning out to be a walking advertisement for fraternization regulations. I love that Starbuck told Adama, and we don't have to dance around the secrets anymore, and that it's all out there in a painful mess. And when she goes to the father and says her act of contrition and he isn't forgiving, it's a wonderful moment.

"You can call me God." But Starbuck's not the forgiving God type either when her nuggets screw up.

Oh, yes. (All those years of Catholic school turned out to be good for something after all. Thank you, Sister Immaculata!) Then, when her verbal act of contrition failed to earn forgiveness, Starbuck chose to perform a literal "act" of contrition — her valiant but suicidal defense of her trainees and the fleet. It was beautiful.

I *love* that. As token pagan and mythology buff, I feellike I've been the official translator for my dad.
"And so we say"
(reminded me straight off of the wiccan "so mote it be")
"It's like "amen" Dad."
When they actually referenced the myth of Apollo in Bastile day, I was in heaven.

I liked that Adama didn't straight off forgive Starbuck. Real life isn't like
catholic school. (heh, and I went, I know this from experience :) )

I'm glad to see i'm not the only one wondering what the point of the Boomer/Helo subplot is.
Are they cruel, and just playing with their prey before they kill it,
or does he have some sort of practical use to them?
Poor Helo.

I really like the character, really want to like her, and the whole killing lee thing is hard.
I want to hear someone say he squeaked by, wasn't fighter material,
but the accident could have happened to anyone...
I'm hoping her guilt has blown her mistake out of proportion.
(If he was *so* completely inept, rather than borderline, you would think someone would have said something)

The point of the Helo/Boomer subplot is to give me lots and lots of chances to gaze upon short-haired guys in the rain. That is all it needs to do.

(/shallow)

Oh. yeah. And very well said.

But Starbuck's not the forgiving God type either when her nuggets screw up.

Yes. She is not one to pour oil on troubled waters - she'd rather rock the boat. I need to get/make me an icon with Starbuck looking hard-eyed and mean, so I can put a caption on it - either Daughter of Mars or Eris, I haven't decided yet.

Someone else was talking about Apollo being the equivilant of Farimar, who loved civilization and accepted the wars to protect it, and Starbuck being the one who loved the fight. And I think that's pretty good. I think that for her it's a good thing the War came, even though I think she's mature enough to wish it had not.

they discover a bomb shelter

I thought the cylons might have set up the shelter for them to find for some unknown reason.
