Slightly tongue-in-cheek meta
I had a strange thought while watching the show. I’m not saying it was intended this way, but it does fit well. The cylons are fundamentalists! #6 tells Gaius that God has a plan for everyone, and that everything happens for a reason. These are both things that fundamentalist Christians believe. (Some non-fundamentalist Christians believe these also.) Fundamentalists also see women and sex, especially female sexuality, as evil and a sin. Female cylons like Sharon and #6 using their feminine wiles on human males to get want they want fits in with the fundamentalist view of women.

The question then becomes what constitutes God to a machine? Do they worship the original binary code of the first independent thinking cylon as the sacred text? Do they pour over the ones and zeros like the Bible code or Kabala?

ETA - Thought of something else. #6 - could that be short for 666? ;)

I love Starbuck, and like that they have strong female characters. I *hate* the fact that the two female characters that are sexually active are both evil. They need to show Starbuck as very sexually active. Not with any of the main characters, but show her getting out of bed with different extras from time to time. Not only do I think this would fit her character, (She seems very much in the mold of eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we may die.), but it would counter the evil portrayal of female sexuality in the cylons.

I wonder if more of Sharon’s personality will take over the farther away they get from the cylon planet?

Edward James Olmos is playing the exact same character he played in Miami Vice.

WTF was the president using an analogy about a mistake with Apollo for? Based on current information, it was the right decision. So think about all the lives you saved instead of the ones that were lost and move on. This is war.

IIRC, all the cylons are connected, right? What one knows they all know?

Billy needs to offer the President some loving comfort as stress relief from time to time. It could just be physical on both their parts. She plans to break it off once she and Adama start getting emotionally involved, but he finds out first, and does *not* react well. *g* Either that or both Apollo and Adama could be attracted to her. *g*

Unfortunately I didn’t see any sexual chemistry between Starbuck and Apollo. Maybe that will change in future eps.

Interesting thoughts on the fundamentalism of the cylons. I'm wondering where their going with it. Hopefully it will be interesting.

I love President Roslin as an older, sexual woman. Billy's cute, but I think she has oodles of chemistry with Lee.

Unfortunately I didn’t see any sexual chemistry between Starbuck and Apollo. I see a little, but mostly because they're forcing it to be there. I'm definitely not convinced yet.

But... aren't the guys who are sexually active pretty much also evil? Dr. Porno=evil. And who else is getting some? Galactica!Boomer's boyfriend? But is Galactica!Boomer actually evil?

I think their relationship is very cute, and I like her character. Dr. Porno's girlfriend is totally evil, but she's not actually human.

I'm just saying. I don't think that in the BSG universe sex=evil. And I'd rather not see anyone sleeping around, but that's because I kind of like plot, and prefer it over Melrose Place style shenanigans. :-p

Could be, since I consider her to be in the same role that was filled by Lucifer, the IR-Series cylon that was Baltar's devil's advocate in the original series.

See, I was disappointed when it was just Apollo's father saying "you move on." Because yes, you do, but it would be terrible if Apollo just forgot, you know? I think there's no doubt that they made the right decision, but Apollo's still the one directly responsible (as he pulled the trigger) for the possible deaths of 1300 people and it's right that he feels guilt for it. In fact, I loved the parallel scenes between him and his father, who tells him to move on and not think about it; and between him and the President (who I really see as having more of a motherly vibe towards him) who tells him that you must never stop remembering even when you don't let it paralyze you. It made me respect all of them more, rather than less.

I could understand the President telling Apollo to remember what had happened. You lose a part of your humanity if you can do that sort of thing without caring about the losses. However, I agree that it was oddly phrased--to the point that it sounded like she wouldn't have done it if she could rewind the hands of time.

I don't understand that. It might have been interesting if they had made it more ambiguous--if, for instance, Lee had seen faces peering out of the port holes. Or if they had the Cylons show up one last time after they jumped away from the Olympia. But all evidence pointed to the conclusion they reached. Though there might have been human uncertainty, there was nothing contradicting their conclusion.

However, tragic the loss, they had to balance the lives of 47,000+ people versus 1300 who were might already be dead. As horrible as it was, I wouldn't have classified it as a *mistake.* Instead, it was a horrible step they needed to take in order to ensure their survival.
